Daniel Cooper, Partner at Imran Khan and Partners, participated in a two-day consultation on Fabricated or Induced Illness (‘FII’) held at St George’s House, Windsor Castle, which was set up by the late Prince Phillip in the 1950s and which aims to bring together eminent thinkers and practitioners to consider matters of public importance.

The event convened distinguished professionals from the legal, healthcare, and social care sectors to examine the complexities surrounding FII allegations and their impact on families.

Discussions focused on the challenges posed by FII cases, including the potential for misidentification and the consequences of false allegations. Participants emphasised the need for safeguarding practices that are evidence-based and contextually informed. The consultation underscored the importance of cross-sector collaboration to develop clear, consistent guidelines and to ensure early, supportive interventions.

The final report highlights the persistent risks associated with FII misdiagnoses and calls for a cultural shift within safeguarding systems. It advocates for the development of fit-for-purpose guidelines through cross-sector collaboration, focusing on early support and the establishment of clear, consistent practices.
