Susannah joined the Actions Against the Police and Public Law Department in November 2023. She works closely with Imran Khan KC on a range of complex cases including inquests, judicial reviews, historical abuse claims under the Lambeth Redress Scheme and CICA and complex criminal matters.

 

Susannah completed LLB and BA undergraduate degrees in 2022 from Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand), although she spent her fifth year of study at Institut d'études politiques de Paris (Sciences Po), specialising in public law, international law and the law of armed conflict. She previously worked on a number of prominent public law cases in New Zealand with a focus on unlawful treatment of prisoners, actions against the police and declarations of inconsistencies. She was heavily involved in the Supreme Court case R v Fitzgerald [2021] NZSC 131 which eventually led to the repealing of New Zealand’s “Three Strikes” legislation. Since moving to the UK, Susannah gained experience managing a number of sensitive criminal matters from a Brixton-based legal aid firm.

 

Now under the guidance of Imran Khan KC, her focus is to utilise the law as an instrument to address issues existing within the criminal justice system, and to seek redress for people who have suffered at the hands of those responsible for their protection.
