The historic sexual abuse of children in care homes across the UK has been a national scandal. Thanks to the bravery of survivors, and the hard work of campaigners, the public have learnt how from the 1950s to the 1990s, children were abused in care at shocking scale. From the 1950s to 1980s, some 7,000 vulnerable children passed through Shirley Oaks Children’s Home, run by Lambeth Council.
