Antoinette, 10 and Kenniece, 3 were killed their mother, Vivian Gamor on 27th January 2007 who had been allowed by social services to have overnight stay. At the time Gamor was living alone and suffering from a “serious mental illness”. It was the involvement of and “mismanagement” by Hackney Social Services that led to the children staying with her overnight. The mother – who pleaded guilty to manslaughter, was sentenced on 1st August 2007 at the Central Criminal Court. When passing sentence, the Judge, His Honour Judger Peter Rook QC made his concerns known:
“On the face of it, this terrible tragedy could have been avoided if Gamor had not been allowed unsupervised access and the children’s father’s grave concerns had been given weight”
